Toluna Review 2026: A Massive Survey Community — But How Much Does It Pay?

Toluna has 21M+ members across 70 countries. I tested the surveys, community features, and sweepstakes for 30 days to find out if it is a real earner or just gambling with your time.

Toluna is one of the world's largest and oldest survey communities, founded in 2000 and now operating in 70+ countries with 21 million members. Unlike pure survey panels like Survey Junkie, Toluna positions itself as an "influencer community" — you take surveys, create polls, participate in discussions, and enter sweepstakes. The social layer is Toluna's differentiator. But does it actually pay? I tested it for 30 days.

The short answer: Toluna is legit and has a massive volume of available surveys. But the per-survey pay is among the lowest I have encountered, and the sweepstakes model obfuscates real earning rates. It works as a volume play — lots of surveys, low pay. Not a scam, but not efficient.

Points SystemVaries — 30,000 points cashout varies from $10-$30 depending on redemption

The Toluna Points Mess

Toluna's point system is the most convoluted I have encountered. Unlike any competitor, there is no fixed conversion rate. A survey offering 30,000 points sounds like a lot, but depending on your redemption choice, that might be worth $10, $15, or $30. The platform deliberately obfuscates the dollar value, which feels manipulative.

In practice, I found the effective conversion rate hovered around 3,000 points = $1 for gift cards, and 3,000 points = $1 for PayPal. So a "30,000 point" reward is roughly $10. This means a survey awarding 2,000 points pays about $0.67 — which is below average.

My 30-Day Earnings Breakdown

MetricValue
Total surveys attempted165
Surveys fully completed45 (27% completion rate)
Total points earned (surveys)36,000 points (~$12)
Points from community activities + polls6,000 points (~$2)
Total points earned42,000 points (~$14)
Total time spent~9 hours
Effective hourly rate$1.56/hour
Sweepstakes won$0 (entered ~15 draws)
Cashouts1 ($10 Amazon gift card)

$1.56/hour is the lowest hourly rate of any platform I have tested — below Ipsos iSay ($1.95), which at least has excellent survey quality. Toluna's volume is high (lots of available surveys), but the per-survey pay is too low to justify the time spent.

The Sweepstakes Trap

Toluna heavily promotes sweepstakes — "Enter to win $1,000!" type offers that consume your points for entries. During my test, I spent 10,000 points ($3.33) on sweepstakes entries and won nothing. That is the expected outcome — the sweepstakes are a points sink designed to reduce the company's payout liability.

My advice: never spend points on Toluna sweepstakes. The expected value is negative. Treat them as non-existent. Cash out for PayPal or gift cards, period.

What Toluna Does Well

  • Massive survey inventory. Toluna has one of the largest survey catalogs I have seen. There were always 15-25 surveys available, even on weekends. If volume is what you prioritize above all else, Toluna delivers.
  • Global accessibility. 70+ countries makes Toluna one of the most accessible platforms worldwide. If you are in a smaller market with limited survey options, Toluna may be one of your best bets.
  • Community features are genuinely engaging. Creating polls, participating in "Toluna ThumbIt" battles, and engaging in discussions adds a social layer missing from competitors. It makes survey-taking feel less isolated.
  • Content creation earns points. You can earn points by creating polls and content that other users engage with. It is a small bonus but adds variety beyond surveys.

What Could Be Better

  • Lowest effective pay rate I have tested. $1.56/hour is not a living wage. Even by survey standards, this is poor. Branded Surveys pays more than double ($3.57/hour) for the same time investment.
  • The point system is designed to confuse. Inflated point values (2,000 points = $0.67) make earnings feel bigger than they are. This is a dark pattern, and Toluna should be called out for it.
  • Extremely slow payouts. 2-4 weeks for PayPal delivery is the slowest in the industry, tied with Ipsos iSay. Freecash pays in minutes. There is no excuse for a company of Toluna's size to take a month to process a payment.
  • Sweepstakes are a predatory mechanic. Promoting points-for-entries to users who do not understand negative expected value is exploitative. Toluna benefits from users who gamble their points away instead of cashing out.
  • Screen-out rate is above average. At 27%, it is comparable to Swagbucks (26%) and worse than Survey Junkie (33%) and Branded Surveys (40%).

Is Toluna Legit?

Yes, Toluna is legitimate. Founded in 2000, Toluna is a well-established market research company (not just a survey aggregator). It is owned by ITWP Acquisitions Limited and operates as a real research panel — Toluna's clients include major brands that pay for consumer insights. Trustpilot shows 3.6/5 across 15,000+ reviews.

I successfully redeemed 30,000 points for a $10 Amazon gift card that arrived in 3 weeks. Toluna does pay. But the combination of low per-survey rates, slow payouts, and a confusing points system makes it hard to recommend as a primary platform.

Toluna vs Ipsos iSay: The Global Research Panels

Toluna wins on volume and community. Ipsos iSay wins on literally everything else. If you want a global research panel with community features, Toluna is your only option. If you want the best overall experience, Ipsos iSay is better.

Final Verdict

Rating: 3/5

Toluna is a legitimate survey community with massive volume and global reach. If you are outside the US/UK/CA or if you value community features, it is worth keeping on your list. But the per-survey pay is among the lowest in the industry, the point system is deliberately confusing, and the sweepstakes are a points-draining trap.

Use Toluna as a secondary platform when your primary platforms (Branded Surveys, Survey Junkie) have thin inventory. Do not spend points on sweepstakes. Cash out for Amazon gift cards and expect a 3-week wait.

I earned $14 in 30 days at $1.56/hour — the lowest rate of any platform in this review series. Use Toluna for volume, not for efficiency.
